A 99th Birthday Shopping Spree at the 99 Cents Only Store Inspired a 2000-Gallon Water Donation to California Drought Victims
Feb 11, 2016
CITY OF COMMERCE, Calif., Feb. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- This past week the 99 Cents Only Store in Folsom hosted a water drive to collect water for residents living in East Porterville, where over 500 families are living without running water.
To kick off the water drive, 99 Cents Only Stores awarded a 99 year-old woman a shopping spree for her 99th birthday. For every dollar she spent on the spree, the Company pledged to donate 9 gallons of water towards the effort, which amounted to 1,485 gallons of water in the end. After the news of the shopping spree spread, the local community sprung into action and actively donated bottles and gallons of water towards the effort.
99 Cents Only Stores delivered the water haul early this morning to the Drought Resource Center in Porterville to be distributed among all of the residents in need.
